So! What happened?
The weekend was over!
My room-mate situation was a catastrophe! Bill wanted me to room with him as Ron was
going to be gone most of the time. After the pre-Memorial Day drama, I decided to look
elsewhere.
Just as it was, setting up, Bill provided 'NO' help packing up. The Hampton was my thing.
The str8s started checking in at noon and I closed shop.
By the time I left the beach, with pnuemonia, everything was sorted, packed in boxes,
ready to be loaded.
I stopped by the store, gave Bill the bank bag and went home to bed. That's where I stayed
for 4 days.
I went in to work on Friday, as usual, still hacking and coughing.
Bill gave a customer, who offered to go pick up some medication, $20.00 out of the cash
drawer.
The medication was $11.20. The change was returned to the drawer.
A note in my pay envelope showed $12.00, not $11.20. (get the picture?)
Bill was a little distant but I put that down to more Ron problems.
I worked Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
An aside; We were not supposed to be open on Sundays after Memorial day.
Bill knew that my truck was down! After taxi fare, my earnings for being open on Sundays
was $4.00
Also, Bill knew I was moving and had agreed to let me use his truck, during the next week.
On Monday, I called about the use of the truck and got some ' cock and bull' story about
the registration having expired and no insurance.
On Tuesday, I called. I had found a vehicle. Super deal. I need to pay and pick it up
on Thursday.
Wednesday morning I called. Paul answered the phone. Bill was out of town. I needn't
worry about working. Bill would cover it.
Wow! I'd been fired!
Bill had tried to call me, it was a last minute decision. Yeah! Right. I'd never left
the house. He never called.
I lost the car.
Friday morning. Paul called. He'd misunderstood Bill. I was not fired. Could I come
in to work as Bill had been delayed and he, Paul, had to go to his regular job.
Can you work tomorrow? (Saturday) Paul, Bill knows that I have to be moved by tomorrow.
Well, can you, anyway?
All my helpers, came to move me at sunup and I opened the store on time.
I had still not seen a paycheck and Paul said that he'd not heard from Bill.
In fact, Paul called the store on both Friday and Saturday, asking whether I'd
heard from Bill.
Bull! I needed money and had not been paid in three weeks, I left a note in the
cash drawer explaining what I'd taken.
Sunday morning, I opened the store. The cash register was empty. A note was left.
RETURN ALL KEYS!
I guess Bill was back in town. Wow! I'm fired, again.
Bill goes to church on Sundays. I waited for an hour. No show!
$16.00 in cab fare.
At 3:00, I went to the Roundup for a couple of beers. We do almost every Sunday afternoon. Bill
knows this.
Little Willie arrives. He acts as though he does not even know me.
We have a problem!
I've not seen or heard from Bill, since.
