This is the simplest, yet the most complex page, of all.
When I first arrived in Pensacola in October of 1999, I was taken to the Pride store.
We visited for about 10 minutes and left.
'Kewl', I thought. I'd never been to an exclusively gay store, before.
The winter had been, extremely, mild and my arthritis was taking a rest.
$585.00 a month is not a lot to live on and I started looking for a part-time job.
I put the word out to everyone I'd met and one afternoon I got a call.
The pride store was looking for help!
At the time, I'd never heard of 'Queen time'. I soon learned.
After 2 weeks of crossed messages, I got word to be at the store at 2:00 pm on a Thursday.
I believe it was in March.
I was interviewed by Ron (Bill was there, but said nothing) and he hired me, starting immediately.
By immediately, he meant 'Now'. He and Bill left.
The things I remember about that afternoon were; 'All the past employees had ripped them off.'
Failed to open the shop, ignored the customers and socialized with their friends.
Employees were given a 10% discount!
I'd never operated a cash register! First sale, I rang up as 3000.00+. Not a clue as to
how to correct the error.
Ron was soon to depart for Minnesota to train as an airline steward.
Ron left and I met the 'real' Bill.
